Sara's Mitts

I finally finished the mitts for my sister Sara.  I hope she likes them!!

I decided that I should actually try to write out my improvised pattern for once. This is my first attempt to write out a pattern, and it must have taken longer to research how to write it up then it did to knit the darn things.  My knitting shorthand is not standard and apparently is only legible to me. So, I had to look up what most other pattern writters use.

So, if anyone is interested in proofing and testing my pattern, I would appreciate it.  Please shoot me an email to angipantsdesign@gmail.com for a copy of the pattern.

Thanks!!!

Rowan Butterfly

Finally jumped on the Butterfly band-wagon. My Uncle's wedding was on October 19th, so October 1st I decided I wanted to wear Butterfly. I ordered Knit Picks Alpaca Cloud in Stream, some Knit Pick interchangeable needles (love how pointy the tips are) and navy blue beads. I got a size 10 bead, and ended up having to make my own bead hook out of 26 gauge wire. I choose to slip the bead on where I wanted it instead of stringing them on to begin with. As I am to OCD to allow the beads to 'randomly' appear on the dress, I instead opted to add a bead to the center of each 'diamond'. I also added a bead to each knit stitch in the top hem ruffle. It added quite a bit of weight to the dress, which is what I wanted.

I also bought a slip pattern and fabric a shade lighter than the yarn to wear underneath. I was going to have the two separate, but once again OCD kicked in and I didn't like the difference in necklines. I ended up whip stitching Butterfly to the slip's neckline. This also enabled me to use the slip's straps and saved me from knitting straps only hours before the wedding. (I finished at 11:30 the night before the wedding!)

I knitted in the round instead of seaming the sides. I did make some cap sleeves for it, but was told it made the dress look too granny instead of old-fashion. I knit 10 inches of the hem and added a short-row cap to the top to rest on the edge of my shoulder. I may still put the sleeves back on. I will have to think on this longer.

Thermal!!

I finally finished Thermal from Knitty.

Yarn: Knit Picks Gloss in Cocoa; 70% Merino Wool, 30% Silk.
Needles: 3mm Double Point and 3mm Circular (both Knit Picks)
Notes: I love this sweater!! I love the yarn as it is warm minus the itch. Some mods I did was to add some short-row shaping the the sleeve cap as I have point shoulders. I also added a button to the collar band instead of only the two the pattern called for. I love my buttons!

Instead of knitting the button band and then stitching the sides to the sweater, I slipped a stitch from the button band through the edge of the sweater as I knit up. I hate seaming, so if I can attach while knitting with not much extra work, I will.

Fin!

The yarn I ordered Monday arrived on Wednesday (go Jimmy Bean Wool!) and I sat down and whipped out the hat in 2 hours. Here are the final pics:

Still finishing up the pattern if anyone is still interested. Let me know!

Drat, no more yarn!

So much for doing the crochet version this weekend. I searched all my nearby yarn shops for another skein of the gray, and no one had it. I asked one shop (listed as a carrier on Blue Sky Alpaca's site) when they might order in more and was told (quite rudely) that it was almost spring and they wouldn't be ordering any more wool.

Sorrr-y!

So I had to go online and order some. Dye lot won't be the same, but I will worry about that when the time comes.

I did have someone ask how I made decreases in the Tunisian hat. I was constructing the hat so the row would go from brim to top. I would have the brim in my right hand and the top in my left. I planned on leaving a 2" diameter gap at the crown where I would simply crochet in the round to close up the top of the hat.

I chained 14 stitches, and would work 12 of the stitches, 10 of the stitches, 12 of the stitches, then 14 again. I did this til the brim was wide enough to fit my head.

So, no more pics until I get my order. Hopefully it will arrive before the end of the week. I will keep you all informed. I will also post a pattern once I am done.

Stay tuned!
